Some Things To Consider when Hiring A Skip

If you need Rotherham skip hire, then at T G Commercials Self Drive, we’re your man! We have been in the vehicle and skip hire business for over 30 years, and we have a huge fleet of commercial vehicles and skips. We are based in Rotherham itself, in New Orchard Road, so wherever you are, we’re not far away.

When you need a skip, you obviously need a skip, but the first question to ask is what size? We provide skips in a wide range of sizes, and that means that you can hire one that is perfect for your particular job. The bigger the skip, the more it costs to hire, so there is no point in getting one that is too big. Equally, you don’t want one that is too small.

A Mini Skip

If you are just clearing out the shed in your garden (isn’t it amazing just how much junk builds up in them over the years?) then you might well get away with a mini skip of 2 yards. (Skips are measured in yards – i.e. cubic yards – of how much they will hold). We can provide a skip of whatever size you require.

Here is a very good tip: a lot of waste can be broken down into pieces. For example, if you are getting rid of an old chest of drawers, you don’t want to chuck it into the skip “as is”. Get an axe, saw, sledgehammer, and chop it up into bits: it will save a lot of space.

Here’s another idea. Hold a yard sale. You might be very surprised, but that old chest that you want rid of might be of use to somebody, and they may be willing to pay a few quid for it. That way, you could make a few bob out of your old junk! Anything left over at the end of the day, then obviously goes in the skip.

Another idea is to call your local charity shop. They may be willing to collect it from you for free if they can sell it on or have some other use for it. No need for it to go to waste if they do.

Another thing to remember with our Rotherham skip hire is that there are certain items that you are not allowed to put in the skip. These include fridges and freezers, any liquids, gas bottles, car tyres, asbestos, light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, and more. Check with the local council what is acceptable at the tip.
