Grimsby is a port town next to Cleethorpes and is the administrative centre of Northeast Lincolnshire. It has a population of some 88,000 and was once the home of the world’s largest fishing fleet in the mid-20th century. There were some 400 trawlers based there. However, the Cod Wars and European Union Common Fisheries Policy put paid to much of that, although Grimsby still boasts the largest fish market in the UK.
